Travel phenomenon
"Gathering Pace - Regional travel"
With the need of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to rationalize their operation in order to reduce their losses they have been ‘forced’ to give up some of their domestic routes to a Easyjet type of operator called Airasia. This operator has been quite successful since its inception several years ago as an alternative form of air travel to the otherwise near monopoly of MAS on domestic routes. It also operates on regional routes to places in the South East Asia region. We suspect that it is going to be the beginning of increasing air traffic within the region helped by the boom in the area, a scenario not dissimilar to what is happening in Europe right now.
There are calls for more flights within the region and this is happening with the advent of more regional airlines. Kuching with its expanded airport will stand to benefit from this phenomenom in the near future. Will keep you posted as and when things develop.
